computer skills to anyone interested in learning.
Courses:
- Introduction to
Computers/Microsoft Windows
This class is intended for users who are looking to learn basic
concept and components of a computer. The students will come to
understand basic hardware definitions, operating systems and some
computer terminology such as: what is an operating system, what
is RAM, and some basic functions in windows 95/98. Manual included.
- Introduction to
the Internet
This class is intended for users who are looking to learn basic
concepts of the Internet. The students will come to understand
basic terms, operating procedures, and some search strategies.
- Introduction to
Microsoft Word 2000
This class will introduce the basic functions in this word processor.
Upon completion the students will learn functions of creating
and saving documents, including setting margins and using rulers
and more.
- Introduction to
MS Excel 2000
This class will introduce the basic functions in this spreadsheet
program. Upon completion the students will learn functions of
creating a spreadsheet, including setting functions and formatting
the sheet.
Each class needs at least
half of the limit to run, if not, it will be cancelled. No refunds
after the first class have been attended.

Mission:
"Rebirth"
of Chicago's near westside and assistance in other Communities.
Employment: job readiness, training, referral, placement, and job
creation.
Energy: Projects for public housing, weathrization, energy rater
training, energy efficient mortgage advocacy, technical support
for City Energy Code adoption, energy audits, blower door and infrared
scan waste diagnostics, energy business development. Housing development
assistance for area residents and in partnership with other Community-based
developers.
Services:
- WorkFare basic computer
literacy.
- HOW (Hands-On Weatherization)
Workshops, covering 235 lo-/no-cost energy measures in a half-day
Workshop that builds awareness/skill/confidence; with follow-up
site visits, for federally-funded weatherization.
- Youth Program producing
five issues of the Chicago Communicator Newspaper (in partnership
with Aban-Aya program of the University of Illinois)
- Chicago Housing Authority
Weatherization Project, trained 30 residents as Technicians, weatherized
200 townhouses, Technicians formed their own business, project
won a National Association of Home Builders Award.
